Mable 02/08/2008
I have to tell you that my beautiful Mable died yesterday; she was bleeding from the mouth last weekend, I took her to the vet on Monday; he thought she had gotten into rat poisoning (which seems improbable, there is no way rat poison would end up in my house), after vitamin K she did not get better so I took her to FVS Hospital; after blood tests they told me that Mable had Owens Syndrome (immune destruction of her red blood cells and platelets); after 2 transfusions, prednisone and an experimental drug treatment (vincristine ) and a lot of love, Mable was losing the blood almost as fast as it was given to her. She died last night at 8:30, and took a part of my heart with her. Having said that, even if I had known last May I would only have 7 months with her I would still have adopted her, she brought so much to my life. God bless your organization! Maddie
I am so sad to email and let you know that Maddie passed away this week. She had immune mediated hypolitic anemia. She literally went from 100% to gone in a few hours. Her white blood cells multiplied and destroyed her red blood cells, she lost 80% of her blood as I said within hours. There was nothing we could do. It's not fair, because she was just two years old. She had the best life a dog could have though, and was loved enough to last a full lifetime. She is buried in my parents back yard in Connecticut.

Marcy Sept. 2015
We adopted little Marcy back in 2008 from the Tampa Bay Beagle Rescue when she was just 2. She was the sweetest, most loving, and easiest going dog we have ever been around. She moved around the southeast with us as we worked on undergrad degrees, graduate degrees, and then finally landed in Tennessee. She then helped us welcome (with a loving and wagging tail) two little girls, now 2 and 3, that also loved her unconditionally. Marcy never met a stranger, never had a bad day, always made your bad days better, and loved us all (even the cats). She was an amazing little girl that we sadly lost this past weekend. Although we miss her greatly, we will remember her fondly and we are so grateful for the time she has given us with her.

Maude ATB 1/10/07
Maude came to us on 8/4/05, as a foster. We knew, as an old gal, she was probably not getting adopted. That was okay, we hoped we could just help to make her twilight years wonderful. I think maybe we did. It took a little time for Maude to trust that she was loved, but once she started sleeping in the bed with us, she got it, she hit pay dirt! She had an old injury to her back that kept her from being as mobile as others, but her spirit soared like no other basset, she always had that twinkle in her eyes, a smile and a big basset woof for you! Dawdle, we love you and miss you----Pat and wen

Merry - September 2016
My husband and I then volunteered as fosters for the first time over two years ago during the holidays and brought Mary home for what was supposed to be two weeks. She was adopted after one week (we already loved her by then) and much to our surprise was returned to Nora after only 48 hours at which time Jeff and I happily adopted her. We took very good care of her but she was diagnosed with advanced heart disease and congestive heart failure about four months ago and put on a combination of drugs to help manage it. She would have good and bad days and unfortunately passed away in Tuesday. No one knew how old she was - some docs said 10, some said 12.
