Beagle (short coat) : : Female (spayed) : : Adult : : Medium
Starr is a "Plus Size" Beagle which gives her more room to store up all the love she is saving for her new family. She is a tall girl, 19" at the shoulder, with long legs and a big heart and she loves hugs and massages. Starr is a sweet girl who likes to play with her foster buddy's toys. She is very easy going with other dogs and a tad bit shy when people first meet her. She loves going outdoors, sunning herself, and sniffing out a lizard or rabbit. Starr enjoys walks in the early evening and her best loved treat is a raw hide bone. With all the stormy weather of late, I have noticed that Starr is quite frightened of the thunder, like so many dogs in Florida. After a failed attempt of treats and toys as a diversion, my husband and I have created a "cave" in the back of one of the closets in our home with a blanket and pillow. Starr feels safe there, where she curls into a ball and naps. It has become such a routine, that when she senses a storm coming, she comes to one of us to show she wants to go to the closet. Once it passes, her foster buddy Dusty, runs in the closet to let her know it is safe to come out. Update - 08-12-08 - We have learned that Starr is quite a fast runner and she loves to play tag with Dusty. She is learning tricks and is responding well to treat motivated commands. She has learned to sit and stay and we are working on following by our side. My husband is building a small agility course in our backyard and we are very anxious to see her progress due to her amazing ability to run and tag.
More about StarrGood with Dogs, Good with Kids Special Needs: Starr's foster mom found a lump on her neck which turned out to be a thyroid tumor. Dr. Hay peformed surgery on 07/10/08 to remove the tumor and was very pleased with the result. Dr. Hay felt there was only a slight chance of recurrence and there was no follow up care necessary once the wound from the surgery healed. As a precaution a sample of the turmor was sent to the lab for testing. The result of the biopsy showed some cancerous cells were present, however, our surgeon is confident that he remved 100% of the tumor and no further treatment or chemotherapy is recommended. A couple of days after the surgery, Starr was back to her old self.
