Beagle / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Adult
Hi, my name is Cowboy! One day my owner dropped me off at the shelter and left me there scared and alone. I couldn't figure out what I had done since I always try to be a very good boy. I sat there for 2 weeks and no one ever came to take me home. Then I started to get sick and I was getting scared that I might never get out of that place. I was in a cage with a not-very-nice dog so I mostly sat there shaking and coughing. Then one day a nice lady from the beagle rescue came to see me. I had this big spikey collar on that was tied in a big knot and smelled really yucky! I think it had been on my neck for about 5 years! I was so happy when she took that thing off of me I gave her lots of hugs and kisses!! She decided that even though I was only part beagle, I was a super loving guy that needed to be saved. Yippee!! Finally I got out of that place and boy am I GLAD!! I am in a great foster home where I get lots of TREATS!! I am a little skinny but with all this yummy food it won't take me long to put some weight on. My previous owner didn't take very good care of me so I got heartworms but the beagle rescue folks are going to get me treated for that and I will be good as new!! I am so lucky that TBBR gave me a second chance to live, now won't you give me a new life?? UPDATE:From Cowboy's foster Mom Cowboy LOVES people. It seems like this boy has been starving for attention. He can’t get enough hugs, cuddles, and pets. He is so grateful to get a second chance at life. He is larger than your average beagle, but that only means there is so much more to love. He tries to get up on your lap so that he can rest his head under your chin. He is so happy to receive any attention you give him. He has been eating two meals a day, plus lots of goodies, and is starting to put some meat on his bones. He has shown himself to be housebroken, and goes into his crate without making a sound. He loves stuffed toys with or without squeakers, and rawhides. UPDATE 6/2/08: He is very smart, and proving a quick learner. He comes running when you call his name the FIRST time! He sits for his treats, in fact when he sees you open the cookie jar he automatically sits, before you even tell him. He just loves to be by his person, and has gotten so much better playing with others. He loves to play tug of war, and loves toys of all sorts. He will going willingly into the crate if you throw a treat in first, and does not make a peep then entire time, until you walk in the door, and then he lets you know he would like let out. He loves to sit next to you, or on your lap. He would love to be an only dog so he can get all your attention, but is fine around others as he is being fostered with two smaller dogs, and one who is larger and bossier then him. He has learned to respect their space. He has filled out nicely, and is no longer skin and bones, and his coat is beginning to shine. This is a boy who just wants desperately for someone to love him. He tries so hard to please you and is so happy when you even look his way that his tail wags a mile a minute!! UPDATE: 6/16/08 - Cowboy continues to show everyone who meets him what a great guy he is. He has gone for his heartworm treatment and the vet office staff thought he was "So much fun!!" Poor Cowboy is losing his foster home soon and is desperately in need of a foster or forever home. "I have to give up Cowboy as a foster, and this is by no means any reflection on him. This boy has become one amazing dog, and I have shed many a tear just thinking about giving him up as a foster. He is gentle, kind and loving. My 83 year old father met him Sunday, (he has been a beagle owner for over 52 years) he could do nothing but praise him, as he sat quietly by his side just wanting to be petted. He could not believe he was not adopted when he went to his first event. He has come so far. He is obedient, comes when you call, sits for a treat, and never has any accidents. He is no longer a diamond in the rough, but has become a beautiful gemstone whose many facets shi
