Sue had a tough prior life in a hoarding situation where she was likely bred and did not get training or much human interaction, despite her past, she is making big improvements in her foster home. She makes friends with other dogs easily, she gets along with her foster's two beagles and is happiest when she is around them. She is friendly at the dog park to everyone and likes to pace around and sniff. She still cowers and runs away if you try to pick her up or pet her, but if you pet her in crate or can catch her to hold her, she loves the attention. She will run in circles around a table or couch often, so her nick name is "Run Around Sue", she is faster than she looks and energetic until nap time.
She is calm in the car, but needs a bathroom break before a car ride. She zig zags on a leash because she is excited to sniff, but she does not pull much and she loves walks. She tries to crawl out of the tub at bath time and the vet clips her nails. She is not aggressive, she is just not used to being a pet and she trusts other dogs more than people. She is crate trained and prefers her crate to a dog bed in the living room, although she is getting brave and laying down close to her foster human more often. We are still working on commands, but she has made great improvements on barking to go out or come in, she barks for a bathroom break when crated, she is good about going outside if you open the door, and she will go in her crate easily if you put a treat in there. She eats in her crate, too.
She likes squeaky toys and nylabones. She eats dry kibble, but has had a few bites of wet food with her medicine from her spay.
She has not had accidents in the house for a while but she has also been supervised and given frequent breaks to go outside while she is learning. She sometimes wets her crate blanket and never barked, but she is doing this less now that she is spayed. She does not bark often, when she does, she needs something or is lonely.
She copys the other dogs and responds well to praise. Scolding her with a "no" doesn't work like expected due to her past trauma, she does better with praise and a treat.
She gets lonely easily and likes to have the other dogs or a human around, but also enjoys classical music in her crate. She loves exploring the back yard and she has not tried to dig or chew any belongings, but she will try to scavenge for dog poop even if she is well fed. She eats a cup of kibble twice a day plus milkbones as treats, she was easting 4 cups a day but she is grazing now that she is not starving and her ribs do not show as much.
Because she does not respond to "come here" yet and she runs around in circles if you try to catch her, it is easier to put a leash on for walks when she is in a crate. She might try to run out of an open front door, but she has not tried to escape from a fenced yard. She has an air tag, she likes wearing a sweater and a fleece blanket to cuddle.
She is very sweet and pays attention, she picks up on routines quickly, she shows a lot of promise because she wants to be like the other pets and do what they do and get the attention they do. She is tiny and has cute white socks and she is playful. She would do best in a home with another dog or two and one with a yard where she is not home alone for long periods of time. She did not react to cats on a walk or to squirrels or birds or sirens outside and she doesn't seem to mind the vacuum or rain.
