Richard is a teddy bear of a “bagel” (that’s beagle-plus, according to the vet). He’s not big from extra weight, just blessed with sturdy bones and maybe a little basset in the mix. While his DNA is a mystery, one thing’s certain: it’s heavy on sweetheart.

After months in an Alabama shelter, Richard is still a bit shy, but his gratitude shows every time you scratch his cheeks, chin, or chest. He’s learned the joys of curling up on the couch or snuggling on a soft dog bed next to his foster mama, who he loyally follows from room to room.

Richard is polite with other dogs, though he prefers to do his own thing. He’s fully potty trained, calm, and for a beagle, impressively quiet—just a few barks and not a single AROOO. On walks, he’s a classic beagle nose-to-the-ground type who loves long strolls and sniffing adventures.
