Clyde is a mischievous and sweet-hearted beagle. He will play fetch with a tennis ball, and tug of war with stuffed toys. He enjoys having his neck and the top of his butt scratched. He has also escaped out the front door of his foster family’s house twice and ran about half a block away until he was caught. Clyde is very food motivated and will get into places and food he shouldn’t.

Clyde had a few accidents in his foster family’s house when he first arrived, but after the first 24 hours and since having been neutered, he hasn’t had an accident in the house. He is accustomed to using the doggy door on his own throughout the day (one of his two foster humans works from home most days). During the night, he will let his humans know if he needs to go out for a bathroom break, then goes back inside and back to sleep on his dog bed (or the food of the bed, if you let him).

When there’s food or treats involved, Clyde does know some basic commands like sit. He also knows his name, but often chooses to ignore his humans because he’s so focused (and usually in trouble). He has a healthy appetite and eats dry dog food without complaint. Clyde’s new family will need to make sure to keep an eye on food on tables, counters, and cabinets.

Clyde seems to have a little bit of separation anxiety. He does not like closed doors and will bust them open, scratch at them, and bark when left alone. He does not like being in a crate and will bark, howl, and scratch when left in one. Getting comfortable being alone and in a crate, and general obedience training will be something that his adopted family will likely need to keep working on in the future.

Clyde has gone on a walk with his foster family and seems to do well on a leash. He also gets along well with other dogs (he currently shares a house with two other male dogs). He isn’t overly loud or vocal most of the time but will bark when playing with his humans and also playing with other dogs.
