Beagle : : Female (spayed) : : Young
Minnie is a 1 year old, brown beagle with beautiful brown eyes. Minnie was found as a stray and is still a little timid and shy in her new surroundings. She hasn't wagged her tail yet, but we are making her feel safe and loved every day. And every day she is coming out of her shell. Minnie gets along well with her other young foster sister, she likes to play with other young dogs. She even understands the concept of fetch. However, Minnie is a bit overwhelming for her senior foster beagle brother. Minnie would do well with another dog that has the same energy level as her.
Minnie is very food possessive, she likes to protect her food bowl. You have to feed her separately from other dogs. She gets very fixated on an area if you give her treats, so I recommend using love and pets as positive reinforcement, instead of treats. Which is great, because Minnie loves snuggling and pets on the head.
Minnie finds comfort in a open crate, but when you leave the house, she whines for about 10 min., then quickly falls asleep on her crate. Minnie whines, but hasn't barked or howled, she also knows to go potty outside and has had no accidents in the house or in her crate.
Minnie walks very well on a leash, she doesn't pull, but she's not ready for a dog park yet. Walks are more her speed.
Like any young dog, when Minnie has extra energy, she can some times find trouble. Minnie's foster parents are trying to break her of the bad habit of chewing on cords. She likes to chew through phone charging wires. Minnie knows her name and the word "no", so she stops when told.
Minnie is a beautiful girl, that needs a family with the time to play with her, and take her on long walks. She might start out shy, but she'll be cuddling on your lap in no time.
