Merida is an energetic beagle-hound mix. She is affectionate and gentle. Merida loves to run and will play fetch with a ball. She also loves toys. If there’s more than one toy available, she will collect them into a pile. Mer-Bear is an excellent jumper and needs a secure fence.
Merida is good with other dogs. She made fast friends with her foster brothers and sisters. She wasn’t aggressive towards a previous foster family’s indoor/outdoor cat (She just wanted to play with the cat).
Merida know her name and is quickly learning her training skills. She learned to use a doggy door in short order. Merida is affectionate and gets excited to see humans, so she will jump and put her front paws on you.
Merida would be good in a home with existing younger to middle age dogs (who also have some energy). She prefers a blanket to a dog bed. Merida is still working on letting her humans know she needs to go outside, so expect some adjustment in her new home. Mer is not comfortable in a crate and needs to be left out when home alone. She likes to look out the window, plays with toys a bit and curl up for a nice long nap. She is a treasure hunter so be sure to keep floors and tables picked up. Merida has had a lot of transition in her life and it has made her nervous. The trainer said that she will get over that when she finder her forever home. She needs an adopter who is experienced with dogs. She would not be a good first dog.
