We want to make sure that you and your dog have a lifetime of happiness together.  However, sometimes problems can occur. The following resources can help.

A GOOD DOG IS A FOCUSED DOG ON YOU

Basic Training Tips

One powerful YES is worth a thousand NO’s - so let’s be SMART

  • See and Observe
  • Mark (YES, good dog! when you observe a desirable behavior)
  • And
  • Reward
  • Treat (with a tiny treat that should be no bigger than your finger nail)

All dogs need constant feedback so that they may learn the rules in your household. Being SMART is effective and positively reinforces dog behaviors through pleasant associations. It is also the best way to get your dog to think and use his brain thus making choices that will stick better than any other method of training.

In contrast, undesired behavior should be ignored and redirected to a behavior that can be rewarded. Preventing an undesired behavior is the key to success.

Important note: If you are experiencing a behavior issue with your pet, please visit with your veterinarian about the problem right away. Sudden changes in behavior are often caused by underlying medical issues. In many cases a trip to the veterinarian can save you time and frustration, and help prevent potential harm to your pet(s) and loved ones.
